In existence for over 30 years, the Family Group offers activities for families with children of all ages. Most trips are rated easy to moderate in difficulty and include AMC lodge weekends, day hiking, backpacking, hut trips, and off road biking.  Families with more experienced teens and adults who enjoy a relaxed pace are also welcome. Our experience has shown that kids have more fun when hiking with other kids.

Family Snowshoe - 1.5 mile Beaver Brook Self-Guided Nature Trail: February 25, 2018

A family/child oriented 1.5 mile snowshoe on the self-guided nature trail of Beaver Brook association park in Hollis, New Hampshire. We will meet at 9:30 AM and the snow shoe should take about two to 2.5 hours at a child-friendly pace, with stops for snacks and snow balls. All are welcome, but families/grandparents with children are the target audience of this kid friendly activity. Both adults and children need to be appropriately outfitted for the snowy and colder weather with hats, gloves, jackets, snow pants, snow shoes, winter boots, snacks/lunch, water. Inclement weather will cancel the event. (click here)

Shapleigh Bunkhouse Family Group - Young Kid Friendly Snowshoe and Other Snow Fun, Hot Chocolate, Games: March 24-25, 2018

Join other families for an overnight in beautiful Crawford Notch, NH!
NH AMC Chapter Family Group has reserved the Shapleigh Bunkhouse (next to the Highland Center) for Saturday night March 24th. Designed for the family with younger children (6 and younger, but all ages of families are welcome), this overnight adventure will include an easy snowshoe or hike (dependent on conditions) on Saturday and Sunday going at a kid-friendly pace. Snowshoe adventures could include a 1 mile snowshoe around Lost Pond near the Highland Center, 1.2 mile snow shoe to Gibbs Falls, and/or .6 mile snow shoe for a stunning view on Elephant’s Head and will depend on age and interest of families. The rest of the time will be filled with winter fun including: building snowmen, sledding family fun, drinking hot chocolate and playing board games, and eating dinner and breakfast together as a group. We will stay at the 16-bed Shapleigh Bunkhouse which is coed, heated, and includes bathrooms/showers, linens, and a common area. As a group, we will gather together for dinner on Saturday night and dine next door at the Highland Center, enjoying a hearty, home cooked meal. Sunday morning we will again enjoy buffet style breakfast. (click here)
